101 March Holiday HW

Hi 101,

The hw for March holiday:

1. Log in to Knowledge Forum
2. Read some of the science articles available and post comments or questions on any of the articles.
3. Post a note on an interesting hybrid animal or plant (e.g liger, zedonk) with information. Other possible discussion points:
- Why scientrist work on hybrid animal or plant
- If you're a scientist, what hybrid organism would like to create? You can share other info about the animal/plant you would like to create.

Cheers,
Ms Huda

  2. a)
A Wholphin or Wolphin is a rare hybrid, born from a mating of a male False Killer Whale and female Bottlenose Dolphin. Although they have been reported to exist in the wild, there are currently only two in captivity, both at Sea Life Park in Hawaii.

Well, hybrid animals or plants are rare so the scientists work on hybrid animals or plants. They are rare because they are an offspring resulting from the mating of two distinctly homozygous individuals.
    c)
If I wanted to create a hybrid organism I would create a “Sharkphin”. An organism consists of two homozygous of shark and dolphin. This animal is able to communicate using super sonic, able to hunt its prey with speed, and is friendly to fishers in sea. Since it is part dolphin, it will be travelling in groups.
